Mix Reactive Dry Enamels™ before you start your project, hydrating for 35 minutes.
In a small bowl, add 4 Tbls. of water and one 4 oz. of mix and stir. For better thickness control, continue adding water with a squirt bottle or eyedropper.
One 4 oz. package is enough Reactive Dry Enamel™ for 6 to 10 pieces, depending on application and size of the piece. Let leftover material dry hard and scrape from the mixing dish. It will then re-hydrate very quickly when water is added. Keeping Reactive Dry Enamel™ wet over a long period of time will effect its reaction to copper and therefore its color.
When copper is placed on the wet reactive enamel, it starts a transfer of ions between the enamel and the copper. The more time in this wet environment, the more reaction.
The thickness of the enamel application is another variable that greatly affects the color and the opacity of the finished piece.
Safety & Clean Up
Wash your brush with soap and water after using; don’t leave it in the mixed Dry Enamel™. Use standard studio safety practices and wash your hands often when in your studio. Wear approved dust mask.
